1999) is a former lead singer of The Suntaraporn band, Leader of The Public Relations Department band and Sangkheetsamphant band. He is well known for his songs which are mostly sung in Tango Rhythms until He got the famous nickname "The King of Tango"

Early Life

Winai Chulabutsapa's first name was "Wathana Chulabutsapa (วัฒนา จุลละบุษปะ)" (Changed to "Winai" in the period of Plaek Phibunsongkhram). He was born into Captain Khunpramanthanakitch (ขุนประมาณธนกิจ) [Wongs Chulabutsapa (วงศ์ จุลละบุษปะ)] and Mrs. Nom. Born at The house near Wat Mahannapharam, Bangkok in June 12 1922. He was born with five siblings and is the biggest sibling. His Father, as a Captain, served in the government around provinces, making him change schools all the time in his early life. Until he moved permanently to Bangkok, he was educated in Wat Rajabopit School at Mathayom 6 (Present; Grade 12). Winai loved singing when he was young; his favorite singer was Luoan Kwanthum, a famous singer in the 1930s.

Singing Career and Life

After Winai graduated, he met with his close relative with The Advertising Department; seeing how Winai's talented in singing, he suggested Winai as a government officer. He practiced singing with Waes Sunthornchamorn, who was an associate leader of The Advertising Department (after the band leader, Eua Sunthornsanan.) At Waes's House near The Thanon Tanao Street. Winai also practiced alongside another Early Era singer Pensri Poomchoosri. Winai sang with Suntaraporn band until serving as a government officer in 1945 The Advertising Department at the age of 23. Winai sang and performed in government for 38 years until retiring in 1983.

Winai's singing career was first introduced when Waes Sunthornchamorn brought Winai to sing "Tas Nam Nghen" at Odeon Cinemas in front of many crowds. (Melody: Waes Sunthornchamorn | Lyrics: Ehrp Prapaiplaengprasom) But because Winai was deemed "not good looking" and was harassed, he won't sing well. But after Winai sang the song, people began applauding and complimenting him for his talented singing style. From that point on, Winai started becoming well-known to many people. His first song to be recorded in The Records is Rao Rak Kan (เรารักกัน) [Unknown Date].

After 1952, Winai met Srisuda Ratchatawan, a singer in the Suntaraporn band; they married shortly after in 1956.

Winai became band leader after Eua Sunthornsanan retired on October 1st, 1972, then Winai retired on September 30th, 1983.

After Retirement in 1983, Winai and Srisuda founded Sangkheetsamphan band, having Kru Satearnt Phankhong as the band leader.

Winai suffered from illness in the 80s and died on September 14th, 1999, at 77. Cremation was set up at Wat Makutkasathariyaramarachvariharn on December 14th, 1999.
