Enrique Hernández-Luike (Huelva, Spain, July 27, 1928) is a magazine publisher and poet, great-grandson of Polish photographer Conde de Lipa. [1] After many years working as a journalist for different newspapers and radio stations, he creates the agency Motor-Press in 1956. The next year, he acquires the motorbike magazine Motociclismo. In 1961 Luike starts Autopista, a car weekly. By 1975 Motor-Press has a list of 20 different magazines under its wing. [2]

In 1978 Luike-motorpress is formed by uniting Vereinigte Motor Verlage and Motor-Press. New magazines such as Avión Revue, Navegar, Motor Clásico, Autoverde, Autovía, Bicisport and Bike are born in the following twenty years, including Auto Mecánica, La Moto, Automóvil, Coche Actual and Moto Verde. In 1993, Luike-motorpress begins to expand to Portugal, México, Argentina and Brasil. In 1995, Luike launches Automóvil Panamericano in Mexico, in partnership with Televisa, directed during its first years by one of Luike's sons, Juan Hernández-Luike. [3] By 1998, Luike-motorpress is the largest motor-related magazine publisher in Spain. At this time, the group is bought by the German partners. [4]

For a few years Luike is the publisher of Tribuna, a weekly general interest magazine. In 2001 he returns to motor publishing by joining Ediaction News, a publishing house created by Javier Herrero, a famed motorcycling journalist and Luike's brother-in-law. In 2002, Autofácil magazine becomes the sales leader among car magazines in Spain. [5]

In 2004 LUIKE Iberoamericana de revistas (LIDER) is born out of a partnership of Ediaction News with Editorial Prensa Ibérica. Luike Iberoamericana de Revistas (LIDER) is formed, with titles like Autofácil, Quad & Jet, Todo Terreno, Fórmula Moto, Car & Tecno etc. [6] In 2015, Car & Tecno becomes evo, the Spanish edition of Dennis’ UK magazine. [7]

In 2016, the book "Historia del Motor en España desde 1956" is published, covering Luike's 60-year career as a motor journalist. [8] [9]

Currently, he's honorary president of LUIKE Iberoamericana de Revistas, a limited partnership headquartered in Madrid with 20 to 49 employees. [10] LUIKE Iberoamericana de Revistas currently publishes Autofácil, Todo Terreno, evo, Scooting and Moto Catálogo in print, as well as formulamoto.es and autofacil.es online. Luike's son Juan Hernández-Luike currently serves as CEO.

Luike also awards the annual Estrellas Luike del Motoro awards, to the best-selling cars and motorbikes, as well as to special personalities. In 2018, Spanish motorbike champion Angel Nieto received one of these Stars, posthumously. [11] Wanda Díez Merced, blind astronomer, is also the recipient of a Estrella Luike. [12]

Racing Career[edit]

Besides publishing about motorbikes, he also raced them. In 1959, Virgilio Hernández Rivadulla and Luike won the Madrid to Florence FIM Rallye. The previous year, Rivadulla and Luike finished second in Scarborough (Scotland). [13]
