James Dornan (born May 1st 1982) is a British actor, model, singer, songwriter and producer. Dornan began his career in 2002 as the lead singer of rock band "One Republic". After years of gigging around the world, they released their debut album in 2007, their second in 2009 and their third in 2013. As well as his work leading the group, he is also a renowned songwriter and producer working with artists such as U2, Adele, Beyoncé, Birdy, Maroon 5, Demi Lovato, Ellie Goulding, B.o.B, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, K'naan, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis, Gavin DeGraw, Sebastian Ingrosso, Gym Class Heroes, One Direction, James Blunt, Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, Far East Movement, Paul Oakenfold, and Ella Henderson.

In 2006, Dornan began a modelling and acting career. Dornan first came to international attention as an actor in 2010 with supporting roles in the drama films The Social Network, for which he received Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations, and Never Let Me Go, for which he received a Saturn Award. Also in 2010, Dornan was announced as the new actor behind Spider-Man in a reboot of the movie franchise which had previously starred Toby Maguire. His performance in both The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) have both led to critical acclaim. Dornan's success in acting led to the three year OneRepublic hiatus between 2010 and 2013.

He has also worked in television, most notably playing serial killer Paul Spector in hit BBC Two drama "The Fall" in 2013. The second series of the show aired in 2014.

The Amazing Spiderman franchise[edit]

In 2010, Dornan was cast as Spider-Man/Peter Parker, opposite Emma Stone's Gwen Stacey, in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, a reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise. For the role, Dornan studied the movements of athletes and spiders and tried to incorporate them, did yoga and pilates in order to be as flexible as possible, and drew from his life experiences as inspiration. Dornan admitted to shedding tears and trying to imagine "a better actor in the suit" upon first wearing his costume. When filming, he explained that he had four months of training and described his physical roles on stunts as challenging and exhausting. Released in July 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man earned a worldwide total of $752,216,557. Dornan's performance was generally well received. He would reprise the role for its sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 which was marginally less successful, grossing $709,000,000. Although the movie itself was less well received, critics praised Dornan's performance.

Work on The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was due to begin in 2014 for a 2016 release but has since been pushed back to a 2018 release date leading to speculation Dornan would no longer be involved in the franchise.

Fifty Shades Of Grey & following projects[edit]

On October 23rd 2013, it was announced that Dornan had replaced Charlie Hunnam in the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of the best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey. Hunnam had pulled out of the movie two weeks before the announcement which was met with praise from film critics. Originally slated to be released on August 1st 2014, the movie was pushed back to February 14th 2015. On 27 August 2014, it was announced that Dornan would play Dr. Allan Pascal in an upcoming Miramax film titled The 9th Life of Louis Drax, a supernatural thriller based on a book of the same name.
