Nonviolence Institute is a non-profit organization whose mission is to "teach, by word and example, the principles and practices of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions.[1] The Institute was founded in 2001 as the Institute of the Study and Practice of Nonviolence by Father Malm and Sister Ann Keefe in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Providence, Rhode Island following the deaths of five young parishioners. [2] The work of the institute uses the "Six Principles and Six Steps of Nonviolence" written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Nonviolence Institute mainly offers training related to these nonviolence techniques city-, state- and world-wide. The institute also supports programs that send representatives into local communities to assist at-risk-youth and victims of and families of victims of violent crime. [1]

The Institute changed its name from the Institute of the Study and Practice of Nonviolence to the Nonviolence Institute in January 2019.[3]
