Carl Loughlin (born 6th July 1982) is an English actor from Wirral, Merseyside .

Career[edit]

He trained at Manchester Schoool of Acting which has notable alumni such as Suranne Jones and Michelle Keegan.

As an openly gay actor, he has built of history of playing LBGT characters in UK TV and film.

His first film LoveSwiped (2016) explored modern gay dating and gained interest from worldwide magazine Attitude on Valentines Day[1]. The film was later nominated by FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) for Best of British in the IRIS Prize Festival 2016 which led him to be asked by FACT to join their panel of distinguished professionals participating in Liverpool Film Night[2][3][4] in 2017. Liverpool Film Night is Merseyside’s longest standing film event dedicated to supporting and showcasing local film talent. The panel of industry experts, representing a diverse range of roles within the film industry, invited the audience to ask questions about filmmaking and their respective areas of expertise.

His second film was just as pionnering in the LBGT film industry, in that it was the first LBGT project The Royle Family actor Ricky Tomlinson has been involved in. Tellin' Dad (2017) [5] (co-staring actor Tomlinson as his father) and was released on DVD, Amazonplay and distributed by Peccadillo Pictures worldwide on several platforms and on their Boys on Film DVD collection [6].

He then worked with students from Edge Hill University to create short film The G Word[7]. The film highlighted the difficulties regular people face each day in coming out to their friends, family, peers, colleagues and other people in their lives. The short was released on 11th October 2017 to support National Coming Out Day, an annual LGBTQ awareness day which was founded in America in 1988. Since The G Word picked up over 30,000 views on YouTube, and has featured in a number of LGBT publications including Attitude Magazine and Gay UK Magazine[8][9].

The LBGT film Just Me (2019)[10][11][12] co-staring Brookside actor Philip Olivier received a large following [13] of LBGT fans as it tackled the theme of accepting your sexuality, and hetrosexual men who have sex with men. In an interview with the oldest and largest LGBT publication in the United States Advocate Magazine he spoke about his own experiences as a gay man and encouraged men in the closet to "live as honestly as possible"[14]. The film is due to be distributed by Peccadillo Pictures worldwide on several platforms and on their Boys on Film DVD collection in Oct 2019. [15].

He then later stared in the UK's biggest soap [16] Coronation Street as a secret love interest for Peter Ash.[17]

In 2019, he filmed the feature film In From The Side (2019)[18] where he played Gareth, the bully of a gay men's rugby club who uncovers his teammates adulterous affair which then leads to the collapse of the delicate social and political fabric of the club.
