Consumers Rights and Responsibilities-McDonald's Case

In this unit we will be exploring the concept of consumer rights and responsibilities. We will use a famous McDonald's court case to explore the topic further.

Pre-reading Activity:

Take out your journals and write what you think the definition of the following terms are: consumers, rights and responsibilities.

Partner up and discuss your definitions with a classmate.

Go to http://www.dictionary.com/. Type in the terms and write the correct definitions.

Go to http://www.thesaurus.com/. Type in the terms and write synonyms of the term.

We will discuss the meaning of the terms together as a class.

Post-reading Activity You are the Public Relations Manager of McDonalds and you want to avoid this kind of negative publicity again. You have to think of ways the restaurant can protect themselves in the future. You have heard all the evidence and have to consider consumers right and responsibilities. Your primary goal is to protect both your customers and the restaurant. Answer the following questions with your partner. Then come up with two ideas to present to CEO of McDonald's to avoid this situation again. You and your partner will present your ideas to the class:

1. What do you think is important for customers to consider when purchasing food?

2. When do you think a company could be responsible for a case like this?

3. What can a company do protect themselves for lawsuits like this?

4. What can consumers to do protect themselves from being obese when eating primary restaurant food?

5. Are restaurants responsible for their customers health?
