The War of elimination (Arabic: حرب الالغاء) is an inter-Christian military conflict, within the Lebanese Civil War, that took place in late January of 1990, between the Lebanese Army, led by General Michel Aoun and the Lebanese Forces led by Samir Geagea.
Hundreds were killed and thousands injured.
Background[edit]
In January 1990, Aoun launched an attack on the Lebanese forces in East Beirut, killing more than 1,000 people over the following months. In March, Aoun announced a cessation of hostilities and stated his readiness to agree to the Taif Agreement, provided that some amendments were made to it.
Where violent clashes took place between the two parties, which was the beginning of what was called (the war of cancellation); After Geagea accused Aoun of trying to abolish the Lebanese Forces.
The two sides exchanged occupation of sites and areas, hundreds were killed and thousands of civilians were injured.
This confrontation ended with the Syrian army's invasion of Christian areas for the first time, the exile of Aoun to France, and Geagea's imprisonment after three years due to his differences with the Syrians.
