Brief Bio[edit]

My name is David Kit Friedman, and I live in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

I could talk a little bit about my professional background here. When I was studying at a university I majored in computer science, and after graduation I worked for a period of time as an online tutor. I started doing pattern trading in 2018, for example buying and selling shares of Alphabet, Inc., and since the beginning of 2021 have been able to make a modest living in that way.

I started with Wikipedia in the early 2000s while I was still a student in computer science, and the first edit with this account was on 4 January 2006.

Creation of alternative account User:SuchAndSuchWork[edit]

Took a look at Wikipedia:Username_policy#Using_multiple_accounts and from there Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry#Legitimate_uses which has:

Maintenance: An editor might use an alternative account to carry out maintenance tasks, or to segregate functions so as to maintain a user talk page dedicated to the purpose. The second account should be clearly linked to the main account.

Wikipedia:Username_policy#Using_multiple_accounts also has:

It is recommended that contributors not use multiple accounts without good reason.

I created User:SuchAndSuchWork on September 3, 2020, and I'd say the purpose was just to have an account for doing simpler editing such as fixing typos and disambiguation links; say for example when feeling a bit tired. I wanted to get away from articles that are receiving more attention and so are generating more discussion.

In practice when working on disambiguation links I would tend to do other editing to try to improve things that I happened to see. It is true though that the articles I worked on in that way tended to be ones that aren't getting much attention.

Anyway, one result of having two accounts, is that there are two different lists of contributions, and so I think this could be helpful if looking back at contributions to find an earlier edit.

Citation Tools[edit]

Help:Citation_tools

Just used Wikipedia:TWL/Citoid which is built into Wikipedia:VisualEditor for automatically making references from URLs.

I think that that can be easier than doing it manually. I ended up switching back and forth from Wikipedia:VisualEditor to manual editing to do things like creating and using a named reference, but I think I may continue with that method in the future. Jjjjjjjjjj (talk) 06:18, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

Plover and the Open Steno Project[edit]

I have been going through a tutorial for Plover and so have been learning stenography.

Plover is part of the Open Steno Project. Jjjjjjjjjj (talk) 04:23, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

After a bit more than a year of informal practice and usage of steno I think my QWERTY is still faster for a lot of different tasks (though I haven't really done specific measurements); however, I'm planning on continuing with it nevertheless. I use it for various things where speed isn't necessarily that critical anyway, and I may be able to make further speed improvements with steno using Plover. Also, I've been using the Microsoft Sidewinder keyboard for the most part, and so I bought a stenography machine (Stentura 400 SRT) for about $120 about a year ago which I've hardly used, but speed improvements might be easier with that. The Microsoft Sidewinder is now gone, and I've switched over to a Zalman ZM-K600S keyboard...(see Plover wiki supported hardware) Jjjjjjjjjj (talk) 07:32, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Transcription of HIST 186: International and Global History Since 1945[edit]

I've been using Plover to do transcription of history lectures given in 2012 at UC Berkeley by Associate Professor Daniel Sargent:

History 186: International and Global History Since 1945 (Spring 2012)

So some of my recent edits have been stimulated by that.

The transcripts are now publicly available at https://www.academiclecturetranscripts.org/ . Jjjjjjjjjj (talk) 07:08, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Opera Mini[edit]

This is quite useful in terms of saving bandwidth of a mobile connection. It works by sending the request to an Opera server. Jjjjjjjjjj (talk) 04:23, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
