The Johnson Effect is a political science concept relating to the abuse of constitutional and democratic practices for the explicit purpose of preserving those institutions. It is commonly characterized (or compared to) Utilitarianism and Machiavellianism. It is named after Lyndon B. Johnson, an American politician who served as the 36th and 38th President of the United States.
