Rise of the Reds (abbreviated ROTR) is a partial conversion modification for Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour created by SWR Productions. It introduces two new factions: The Russian Federation and the European Continental Army (ECA) in addition to several new features.

The modification continues the Generals storyline, depicting a future conflict between Europe, Russia, China, the Global Liberation Army (GLA), and the United States of America following the end of the Zero Hour campaign.

Features[edit]

Rise of the Reds introduces two new factions to Command and Conquer Generals universe: The Russian Federation and European Continental Army. Already existing factions feature graphical updates as well as new units, features, and abilities. ROTR also introduces a fully-functional naval combat to Zero Hour.

New particle and sound effects accompany the 100+ units Rise of the Reds brings to the player experience.

As of Version 1.801, all factions have been implemented. By Version 2.0, Rise of the Reds will introduce fifteen sub-factions which supplement the original armies as well as a series of custom missions that tie-in with the ROTR storyline.

Development History[edit]

Development of Rise of the Reds commenced in 2004 under the direction of a user named 'Red Army' with the sole intention of introducing the Russian Federation as a forth faction in Zero Hour. After a number of leadership changes, the mod saw its first release in 2006 but then immediately went into hiatus.

In 2008, SWR Productions (then known as E-Studios) adopted and rebooted the modification, extensively redesigning old graphical assets and improving gameplay balance. Rise of the Reds saw it's second release in December 2008 as Rise of the Reds 1.0 SWR Edition. Additional game assets such as functional naval combat and a completely redesigned GLA faction were added in the Version 1.5 patch released in early 2009.

SWR Productions soon after declared plans to merge assets from a soon-to-be defunct modification, Rise of Europe, officially announcing the inclusion of a fifth, European faction to Rise of the Reds.

The European Continental Army (ECA) was introduced in the Version 1.8 December 2012 release, which brought numerous new gameplay mechanics, visual and audio effects, and custom voice-work.

Rise of the Reds continues development, with the next version to be released as Version 1.82 sometime in 2013. Version 1.82 will be intended as interim before the modification's final development phase, making numerous balance and bug fixes following the latest release, as well as the addition of smaller features.

SWR Productions intends to complete Rise of the Reds by Version 2.0, where each factions' gameplay mechanics, sub-factions, and naval assets will be fully implemented.
