From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pleasure Ground is a studio album by American harsh noise and power electronics artist Prurient, first self-released as a double cassette and subsequently re-released by Load Records on November 14, 2006 on compact disc.

Though in consistent aesthetically in certain respects with prior releases, Pleasure Ground is regarded as a turning point in Prurient's oeuvre. The album is both the first of Prurient's digital recordings and distinct from prior releases in the album's heavy use of synthesizers.

Music and lyrics[edit]

The lyrics of Pleasure Ground are oriented around themes of mortality, sexuality, and death.[1] In a departure from prior Prurient releases, the album's lyrics are simplistic and are described by Pitchfork's Marc Masters as Haiku-like.[2] Fernow regards Pleasure Ground as exploring the duality and ambiguity of roles in sadomasochism, which he sees as exemplifying the conflictual nature of paradox and hypocrisy.[3]
