Short Story Writer, Sociology Author, Chess Author, Statistics Professor Born March 8, 1963 in Estrela D'Oeste, state of São Paulo, Brazil, grew up in Gastão Vidigal, state of São Paulo, Brazil up to age 16. Moved to the capital city of São Paulo in 1980, studied at Colégio Caetano de Campos (Consolação), USP (Universidade de São Paulo), Universidade Mackenzie, Universidade São Judas, PUC/SP (Catholic University of São Paulo) and the University of Pittsburgh. In 2017 he received the Honorary Title of "Cidadão Vidigalense" from the City of Gastão Vidigal, SP, Brazil. He was the Editor of the En Passant newsletter, from the Pittsburgh Chess Club. The news letter was awarded four prizes "Best Chess Club Newsletter in the USA" four years in a row from the CJA, Chess Journalists of America in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Among his best known short stories are: Raquinho, Insulto, Adão, Naco, Malhada e Araçatuba, Festinha, Dedos Tão Quentes, and O Cachorro. He is also author of three chess books, editor of a Sociology book and translator of a classical Sociology book. The stories Raquinho and Insulto (Insult) have been translated to the English language.

John Barroso lives in Pittsburgh, USA where he is working of a new short story book and a book on literary analysis and presentation of American Literary Minimalism, both to be published in Portuguese.
