Biei boast a health agriculture industry with virous crops growing in town like wheat, potatoes, beans and sugar beets. Wheat is planted in the fall and left to grow until summer. The Wheat grows to 20cm before being buried under the winter snow. Because of constant ground temperature the Wheat does not freeze or die. Both half short and half long wheat are grown Biei unlike the rest of Hokkaido. When the snow melt the wheat start to grow again then change color. Over the summer and into fall the wheat will change color from green to yellow. These color change and many different corps that are grown contribute to the beautiful scenery that tourist come to see. Tourism is another growing sector because Biei's scenery has been the face of many tv commercials.
