A graph illustrating, by example, the working of the Unsavory Canyon phenomenon

The unsavory canyon is a hypothesis in the field of good taste which holds that in general , the genre of bad music becomes more enjoyable as the artist put more seriousness in the effort of really making it bad. However, as the music approaches 'pure seriousness of effort at making it crap', listeners experience a moment of revulsion and utter discomfort listening to it when it it close to, but not at, 100% seriousness. This area is referred to as the unsavory canyon.

The term was coined by connaiseurs of friday-afternoon music , known as the 'youtube-day' or 'wansmaak vrijdag'. Through extensive research, experimentation and rickrolling attempts, they have come to find that while it holds true that bad music can be perfectly enjoyable, it becomes rather hard to listen to, or even impossible to endure, once it becomes clear that the artist has gone to great lengths to be utterly and entirely serious in her effort to produce the materials presented. This effect disappears the moment the seriousness-level comes closer to the 100% mark, at which the feeling of revulsion is replaced with a head-shaking motion, exclamations of unbelief and a general sense of this bastards just simply deserves to be laughed at.
