The 8^TH Plague

   The 8th Plague is a 2006 low-budget American horror film directed by Franklin Guerrero Jr. and starring DJ Perry, Leslie Ann Valenza, and Charles Edwin Powell.^[1][2]Franklin Guerrero was the age of 32 when he directed this film . This film was actually considered one of his greatest pieces of work. The film is self aware as well by making a lot of references to past apocalyptic films such as Dawn of the Dead (1978 film) and Re-Animatorr

Plot

   The core plot of this film is based on the Protagonist Launa who is investigating a recent disappearance of her sister Nikki who had went on Camp and never came back . Once she reaches the camp she and her friends along side her run into a greater evil in an abandoned prison .This film is filled with countless twist and turns that lead up to as very unpredictable ending

Summary

   Launa investigates the disappearance of her sister Nikki who never returned from a camping trip in the fictional town of Halcyon Springs. A local, named Mason, helps by leading her to an abandoned prison. Upon entering Launa comes in contact with evil, ancient, supernatural powers.^[1][2] . While at it she stumbles across a lot of mishaps that leave her with ptsd and stress for the most part . She decided to take it upon herself to get assistance on her way to look for her sister , this is a police officer and friends . Once they go out seeking they reac a an automobile and this automobile has a man who tells them to head to the prison that she might be their , At this point Launa is stressed because she is reminded about a myth that their is a prisoner who keeps people hostage and kills them around this area .As soon as they reach the prison they all split ways looking for Launa , her two friends Crystal and Gavin diverge into having sexual intercourse in a prison cell , they hear a strange noise so the Gavin goes ahead to see what it might be . Around this same time Launa appears to be in a basement with Mason wand they both see dry blood on the walls , this leaves her disgruntled so she decides to leave the for some fresh air . The Deputy is still investigating the area for possible clues and finds wet blood all over the ground he then slips on this blood and dies by cracking his neck on a sink. Crystal goes to look for Kevin and finds him sipping blood on the floor corner possessed he then drags her by the head and forces her to look at a symbol on the wall. Mason gets Nikki to follow her and they see Crystal dead on the ground , Kevin appears and slaps Mason and chokes Nikki as he appears possessed , he attempts to kill her , then Mason shows up and savers her by stabbing him and killing him for god ,Mason begins to have flashbacks and this only makes it harder for him to cope so he goes blind folded and then later on begins to growl . Mason has been possessed to so he chases Nikki down a dark hall as she screams , she locks him out a door finds an axe and kills him very quickly .She runs for safety and a police officer finds her and tells her to pit the axe down and hault , he then forces her up the hill with handcuffs while they hear growling sounds she begs for the axe back and for him to release her , he attempts to shoot this creature but he has no sight of it ,Kevin then kills the officer and nikki grabs the axe and kills possed Kevin . Nikki makes it back to her car and drives away .She takes herself to a hospital and as she is being treated she sarcomas surveillance of the symbol that had made all the others possessed demons , she then becomes possessed .

Cast

DJ Perry as Mason - His character in this is pretty much the quit farmer , Dj Perry has been known for films such as Mansbestfriend and Forty nights

Leslie Anne Valenza as Launa - This character is the protagonist of the film who is seeking her sister ,

Terry Jernigan as Buck - Buck is crystals boyfriend in this and has a very large ego . He has been in films such as sherwood horror and Forty Nights

Charles Edwin Powell as Curtis - he plays the police officer within the film

Laura Chaves as nikki - this is Launas younger sister who happens to get lost at summer camp .Laura chaves has been known for numerous roles such as winter wheat

Critical Analysis

Their are a lot of events that occur in this film that hint future endeavors that could possibly happen .For example when Nikki first goes to camp she uses the washroom and sees the blood painted on the and in the background their is a voice that mentions "Buck" several times this hints that its buck that will be the first one to have contact with this demon possession . The demon that takes over each character t leaves a blood mark on their right hand and every time it contacts the characters eyes tend to grow big and red . When Buck first got posses he was chewing the ceramic tiles on the walls this was exactly where Nikki died which could only mean that the demon had sense of this and was looking for her body. The lighting in this film tends to very dim and the camera pacing is quite slow so it moves a bit lat. Overall this was a low budget gore movie so not much is expected of it but it actually delivers quite well to the horror genre in general .
