Life[edit]
Rose Gell Jacobs was born in New York, NY on September 10, 1888. Rose Gell graduated from Columbia University and was a teacher in New York. In 1913, Rose met Edward Jacobs through Edward’s sister-in-law and a mutual interest in Zionism. After their marriage in 1914, Edward and Rose visited Palestine on their honeymoon. When the Jacobses returned to America, they moved to Columbus, Georgia, a place of great contention for Rose, due to her protest to the continued use of child labor in the local cotton mills. The Jacobses welcomed a daughter, Ruth, on April 5, 1915 and a son, Joshua, on July 23 1920. Rose died on August 14, 1975.
Work with Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America[edit]
Hadassah is an organization for women (founded by Henrietta Szold in 1912) to raise money for medical, social welfare, and educational projects in Palestine and Israel, and to educate its membership in Zionism, Jewish culture, and women's health issues. Rose Gell Jacobs
