Dean Palinczuk (born February 1980), better known by the stage name Scor-zay-zee (also Scorzayzee / Scorz) is a British Hip Hop Rapper, Music Producer and Actor.[1] [2]

Early Life[edit]

Born and raised in the Sneinton & St. Ann's suburbs of Nottingham, Scor-zay-zee began listening to rap music at High School. Age 13, inspired by New York emcee Nas, he started writing raps with childhood friend (& future Out Da Ville bandmate) Lee Ramsey. Ramsey took Scor-zay-zee to the Community Recording Studios (CRS). At CRS, under the mentorship of Trevor “Big Trev” Rose, he developed his craft.

Career[edit]

Out Da Ville[edit]

While attending CRS, Scor-zay-zee joined the group Out Da Ville. Originally Lee Ramsey, Big Trev & Nick Stez, the founding members would constantly add new talent to the group in the form of Rappers, Singers, Producers & DJ's. They produced large amounts of material and often toured up and down the UK as well as appearing on high profile UK Radio shows including Radio 1's Rap Show with Tim Westwood and Choice FM's Friday Night Flavas with DJ 279. Eventually, the group disbanded & Scor-zay-zee went on to record solo material as well as making many guest appearances.

Great Britain[edit]

In 2004, Scor-zay-zee released the song "Great Britain" produced by the P Brothers. The song included very challenging & controversial subject matters, in which the rapper was critical of the British Government and Royal Family. The Song gained traction when played by then BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe & with an article in The Telegraph newspaper. "Great Britain" created such an uproar because of the lyrical content, the possible banning of the song was even discussed in Parliament.

Illness, recovery & mental health awareness[edit]

After the controversy surrounding "Great Britain", Scor-zay-zee gradually slipped into depression. Already a cannabis user, the depression led to further heavy cannabis abuse and eventually a diagnosis of psychosis and schizophrenia. After his recovery, Scor-zay-zee has been an active campaigner for mental health awareness.

In 2010, he recorded the single "Luv Me" in which he documented his struggles.

In December 2012, BBC One & One Xtra DJ (and childhood friend) MisterJam, collaborated with Scor-zay-zee for the radio documentary “Scor-zay-zee & The S-Word”.- It explored his musical past & mental health journey. The documentary received an award from the charity Mind in 2013.

In 2019, Scor-zay-zee mentored a project (in conjunction with the Circle Of Light, funded by Youth Music) with 60 young Nottinghamshire aspiring musicians (with mental health backgrounds), to write and record an album within 3 weeks. The completed album "Circle Of Light - The Album" was released on world mental health day 2019.

"Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee" movie[edit]

In 2007, Scor-zay-zee auditioned for Director Shane Meadows (This Is England / Dead Man's Shoes) & actor Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum / Blitz / Journeyman) for their upcoming mockumentary project "Le Donk". After a successful hour-long improvised audition, Scor-zay-zee was initially hired to play a small character. As filming chemistry developed, they raised his role so much so, the movies name was changed to "Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee". It was released in 2009.

Kick Start Scorz & Aeon: Peace To The Puzzle[edit]

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Scor-zay-zee finally released his well overdue 1st Studio album "Aeon: Peace To The Puzzle" in April 2015. Originally planned as a 14-18 track album, the campaign hit its £8000 target within 7 days so a stretch goal was added to make the LP a double album. That goal was also reached the campaign eventually went on to reach £16,665 with the help of 465 backers.
