Tokugawa Ieyasu (Sohachi Yamaoka Novel) Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川家康) is a historical novel by Soushachi Yamaoka, which was serialized from March 1950 to April 1967 in the Hokkaido Shimbun, the Tokyo Newspaper, the Chunichi Shimbun, and the Western Japan Newspaper. After going through a paperback and Kodansha Bunko version, it is a long seller of Kodansha's Yamaoka Sawachi history collection (all 26 volumes).

Overview[edit]

17,400 manuscript papers were used for the completion of the novel. Along with "Joy and Romant" People of Goodwill (1932 - 1946, published in 27 volumes), it is recorded as "the longest novel in the world" in the Guinness Book of World Records. During the World War II, Yamaoka had experience of interviewing many special officials as sergeant writer. In Korea, it was published under the title "Ambition" and became a best seller. In China, it has become a best seller, selling 2 million copies in total of 13 volumes since its publication in autumn of 2007, and has earned high praise.
