Lucy Lee-

Pen name for artist Lee Ann Mitchell. Her parents recognized her artistic abilities early on from the time she was born in Wyandotte, MI [1]. During her early school years, she didn't have gym or music but instead was trained with art classes which allowed her to grow and experiment with different mediums.

In 1988, she moved to Saginaw, MI [2] with her family and continued her art education thru Middle School and High School. She was entered into many school art shows featuring paper mache figures, etchings, and acrylic on canvas. Graduating from High School in 1996 from Heritage High School, she went to Ferris State University for Pharmacy after her parents stressed that there was no future in art.

After not excelling in Chemistry by any means, her parents suggested that she go into something with art. Switching her major to Architecture and Construction Management, she graduated towards the top of her class and went on to do high end home design when she moved to Tucson, AZ in 2002.

In 2004 she returned to MI and became a designer at a Remodeling company all the while continuing her love of painting at home.

In 2007, the stock market crashed and subsequently caused the construction industry to almost come to a complete standstill in Michigan. She was laid off from her job and decided to take time off to be a stay at home mom.

She continued painting and expanding her expertise from the abstract to surreal and has the ability to take the classics and put her own spin on them. Her passion is nature and features flower, trees and abstract leanings in her paintings.

In 2013 she became an art instructor at The Paint and Pour [3] which is a studio/mobile based company where people come to take a painting class, have some wine, and have fun. She has really started to expand her portfolio focusing on acrylic on canvas, but has also started to dabble in mixed media, glassware painting and 3D sculpture. She loves to refinish furniture with a funky twist and repurpose trash and turn it into art.

She currently resides in Livonia, MI [4] where she raises her two boys by day and teaches and paints at night.

Her works can currently be seen at the J Carswell Gallery [5] and are available for purchase.
