I am an Associate Professor of Music, the faculty coordinator of | Music Studies and the Institute of Hawaiian Music (IHM) at University of Hawaiʻi Maui College. I served on the Board of Governors of the Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts for 10 years and PBS Hawai‘i for three years, and have been awarded three Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for compilation recordings by my students. I received a B.A. in Hawaiian Studies and M.A. in Hawaiian Language and Literature at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, a graduate certificate in Telecommunications and Information Resource Management from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and Ph.D. from the University of Otago in Aotearoa (New Zealand).

I am a prolific haku mele (composer of Hawaiian language poetry and song). Some of these have been recorded by Kealiʻi Reichel, The Pandanus Club, Willie K and Amy Hānaialiʻi Gilliom, Mailani, the De Lima ‘Ohana, O’Brian Eselu, Steven Espaniola, Patrick Landeza and others.

In 2022, I joined with Tarvin Makia, Kenneth Makuakāne, and Jeff Dayton to form A‘ea‘ (group). We released our debut EP in December 2022.
