  • Location - Cronulla, New South Wales, Australia
  • Interests - Surfing and Guitar
  • Bio: Born 1951 in Sydney Australia. Free surfer best known for association with Gordon Merchant who started Billabong (clothing) and Michael Peterson (surfer) during the early seventies. The "Cutback of the Century" featured in Tracks (magazine) resulted from MP winning an argument to surf Kirra instead of Snapper Rocks, which, at the time had better banks and more swell. "Once Michael had spotted the photographer setting up, I had no chance!" The rest is history, see movie Morning of the Earth by Albie Falzon for the three minute segment of MP at Kirra.
  • Martial Arts Brought up in the then controversial Industrial area of Cronulla from late Fifties to mid Sixties, fighting was the norm. By eleven started Boxing and by twelve was a Flyweight sparring partner of World Bantamweight Champion Jimmy Carruthers.

By 1964, at age thirteen, started Kodokan Judo and in 1966 Shotokan Karate with Patricia Harrington 6th Dan Judo and Ju Jutsu, 10th Dan (equivalent) Karate Menkyo Kaiden who, by 1970, branched out to Sekiryūkan Karate trained by 15th Inheritor Shusaku Shitama under Sōsuishi-ryū Jujutsu, Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu and continued to train for many years.

In October 2011 and November 2014, Benny Urquidez visited Sydney NSW Australia for for promotional work but managed to include special 2 hour training sessions for his friend James Sheedy who runs a Tae Kwon Do Academy in Cronulla. After the strenuous and highly informative events Benny gave patrons an opportunity for photos before he left for another engagement at Fox Studios in QLD. "While walking to a Cafe for a friendly chat over coffee with Jim Sheedy and a few participants from the class, I managed to have quite a long conversation alone with Sensei Benny about his youth, life skills and his current goals, was very lucky to have had the chance for a one-on-one with him" - Kevin Hall 2011
