Sahap Fisek[edit]

Sahap Fisek (1923- 1998) was a Turkish physician, a Major General of the Turkish Armed Forces and General Manager of Turkish Red Crescent and President of the Child Protection Agency in Turkey ^[1]^[2].

Early Life[edit]

Born in 1923 in Ankara as Sacide Kuzeyli Fisek & Zekeriya Fisek's(cousin of Hayrullah Fisek/one of the leading generals of the Turkish War of Independence) only son. Completed his elemantary, middle school & highschool education in Istanbul. After graduating from Istanbul High School(Istanbul Erkek Lisesi) he went on to study medicine in Ankara University's Department of Medicine

He married Nurten Ataman in ..., the couple had two sons, Cenap Fisek (born 1954/Ankara) & Emrah Fisek born (1961/Portland-Maine, USA).

Professional Career[edit]

After a year of compulsory medical service -standard in Turkey's medical practice laws- he started his Radiology residency in Gulhane Military Medical Academy(GATA) to be completed in 1956. After serving as Chief Resident he furthered his medical studies in the United States. Serving in San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC)& Osteopathic Hospital of Maine USA respectively.

Upon his return in Turkey, he was appointed as Asst. Professor of Medicine in Gulhane Military Medical Academy(GATA)'s Insitute for Radiology.

Served as Chief Pysician in Izmit Military Hospital, Sarikamis Military Hospital and finally Gulhane Military Medical Academy Hospital in Ankara respectively.

In 1973 he was promoted to Brigadier General where he served as President of Human & Veterinary Health Divisions of Turkish Land Forces & Ministry of Defence respectively. Finally retiring as a Major General in 1982.

After his retirement he served as the General Manager of the Turkish Red Crescent and President of the Child Protection Agency in Turkey ^[1]^[2].
