John Thomaides is the current mayor of San Marcos, Texas. Thomaides was sworn in on December 21, 2016 as the 18th mayor of the city of San Marcos.[1]
Personal life[edit]
A native of Philadelphia, PA, Thomaides has lived in San Marcos since 1993. [2]
Career[edit]
Thomaides served on the San Marcos City Council from 2003 to 2016.[3] First elected in 2003 to Place 6, Thomaides was re-elected in 2006 and again in 2009.[4]Thomaides stepped down from the Council in 2010 to run for mayor, where he lost by a 42 vote margin to Daniel Guerrero. [5] Thomaides ran for Council Place 3 in 2011 and was elected to a new three-year term.[6] While serving on the City Council, the city of San Marcos was named the fastest growing US city 3 years in a row. [7]On July 13, 2016, Thomaides announced his candidacy for the mayor in the November 8th election. [8]Thomaides won by a 42 vote margin to in the Run off election on December 13, 2016. [9]
