Dimensions of RCA Cartridge

FWIW the dimensions come from the Audio Recording History which has an archived external reference link on the RCA Cartridge page. I suggest no discussion is required but you might consider turning the external link into a reference if you think there will be any further question as to size. Tom94022 (talk) 20:47, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

I'm solely concerned with using that mirror. If there are other reliable sources, then that's awesome, and no discussion is required. Kuru (talk) 22:29, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day!

Thank you

Hello Good Time, I really thank you for patiently guiding me to improve my first article. One of the reasons why I chose Shahram Bozorgmehr as my first article is his good condition and record in Iranian music, and compared to Iranian singers who have articles on Wikipedia, I tried to introduce more reliable sources, and again, I did my best. I will, I hope I can get your opinion.I ask you to help me publish my first article --M.Ahmadi62 (talk) 08:57, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Hey I just removed the redirected of the Daily soap as it's still not have any verification, so I redirected the actor to his draft page to his full name. I think I should not redirect to a draft page, should I redirect after the draft gets into the mainpage? ... २ तकरपेप्सी talk 19:42, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Yes; we cannot create redirects in mainspace to draft articles. Easy enough to recreate or undelete when or if the draft is moved. Kuru (talk) 19:44, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Thanks and can you check the draft once Draft:Ayan (actor) and comment on where should I improve and how to help the draft to get ready on the main page ... २ तकरपेप्सी talk 19:54, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Idris bin Abdullah al-Senussi Edits

Hi Kuru,

I see you changed my edits on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idris_bin_Abdullah_al-Senussi. For reference, I'm doing my Master's in Libyan History and am very familiar with this topic. When I came across this page, I was literally moved to make a Wiki account to edit this absolutely egregious page. It is so incredibly dishonest, not least because it brushes over so much important information such as the 1995 court case, the Debrett's ruling, or the completely made-up things.

Questions for you:

1. What would be an acceptable source for the 1995 Court Case? Or other articles? Obviously these articles have been scrubbed from the internet so the Forum are the only places to find them. I can easily get these from newspaper archives and upload pictures and would be willing to do so.

2. Why did you return uncited and inaccurate information to the page? "Prince Idris al-Senussi began working on leading the royal family and uniting Libya, as this role was passed onto him by his late father." (This is literally untrue)

"He has also been playing a diplomatic role to help balance the differences between Libya and Africa, the Arab World, Europe, the United States, Latin America and Asia." (What diplomatic role?)

"He returned to Libya on 23 December 2011 with his cousin, Prince Ahmed Zubair Al-Senussi." (He does not live in Libya)

Idris is supported by an Advisory Council (the Senussi royal family allows polygamy, which is "a factor that complicates all claims of royal legitimacy through descent")[2] that heads the Sanussiyyah movement which embraces the majority of Libyan tribes.

(Again, this is entirely untrue and has no citation to prove it)

3. Why did you return clearly propagandistic information to the page?

(It doesn't take much intelligence to see where that is)

4. Why did you delete information sourced from clearly reliable websites (such as the Globe and Mail) which I added the page?

Your answers would be helpful and would materially contribute to my ability to make this page better and more historically accurate.

Thanks Moonlight Sunshine Moonlightsunshine1994 (talk) 14:13, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello. As much of your material was sourced to clearly inappropriate sources, such as self-identified copies of Wikipedia articles and open forum posts, I restored the material to its original state. I would suggest you utilize sources that comply with our policy on this at WP:RS, and you can avoid problems in the future. As a graduate student, you should be quite familiar with evaluating and citing sources. I would suggest utilizing the article's talk page if you have content-related questions specific to the article. Kuru (talk) 15:24, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. Is it best practice to simply remove all edits if some are well sourced and some are not? Might you be able to review my previous changes and approve those that were well sourced, instead of blankly deleting all edits? or would you like me to go back and add again those sources which are well sourced. There is also quite a few issues with past unsourced material which I see you elected not to remove. Please advise

Hello, Kuru! Good afternoon! I read your message about my edit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Olivia_Molina_Avellaneda , and the intention with my article is really to register a complete content containing a little more of her story, showing the different areas of her work and activities and I definetly don't have the purpose to promote her. Hello Kuru

Hii Kuru I just got the message about - Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to CASA ratio. actually, this site - thebankpedia.com isn't my site and I felt that this site has written an article about CASA Ratio so it helped the user to get more information about casa ratio so that's why I added this link but its ok if you felt that it's not relating the topic then you can remove the link but please don't give my mistake penalty to the owner of this site. Thank you & Have a nice day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.159.152.99 (talk) 16:19, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

Dubbing (filmmaking) and ED-Tech Press

Thank you for the edit-summary explanation of your removal of ED-Tech Press source from Dubbing (filmmaking). After looking into it, I completely agree with you regarding WP:CIRCULAR. Regarding your mention of "ed-tech press scam", could you please point me to lists or discussions so that I can avoid these kinds of publishers in the future? I know that the software will warn you if you try to publish a noted dubious source (say, from lulu.com), but I didn't get any notice for this one. Aithus (talk) 04:24, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Not sure on the auto-notice. I keep a short list of Wikipedia republishers here if that helps. Some of them are really clear and attribute correctly, like PediaPress, but this one is an outright scam. They copy from a variety of sources, and run out of a fake storefront. Kuru (talk) 04:31, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
That's a great list. Perhaps it should be added to Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources. Aithus (talk) 14:22, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Clarification on reasoning for content removal

Hi Kuru,

I see you have removed my addition to the management consulting article: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Management_consulting&oldid=1071927356

You left a series of suggestions and reminders following the removal of the contribution, the bulk of which seem to be associated with a presumed COI. This is aligned with your explanatory comment for the edit: "this is just marketing-speak for every boutique consulting firm; serious COI problem again".

I have no problem with declaring my relationship with the company to which I referred, but I was hoping I could get further guidance on how I might ensure the contribution is given due consideration and find out if there is more required here before I do so.

For example, I am not sure what it is specifically to which you are referring RE "marketing-speak" and "boutique consulting firm", and I do not understand the critique. If there is a problem with the content, could you please provide some more specific detail about what was said in the contribution that was problematic?

I am not receiving nor will I receive any compensation for the contribution - the addition was included because the 'trends' section corresponded very closely to the adaptations of the company to which I referred. It is also not meant to be promotional, and there was no link to the company website included.

In short, I have assumed that people are able to make contributions to a topic if they have some kind of immediate relationship to that topic so long as that relationship is declared and any risk of bias or ulterior motive etc. is exposed. If I am incorrect in this understanding, then I would greatly appreciate it if you could direct me to where in Wikipedia's policies I can find details about such exclusions.

I am confident that with your assistance I will be able to correct my contribution so that it is fit for purpose.

Cheers,

NecessityBreeds (talk) 04:47, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Every single little consulting firm has a wall of marketing gibberish they use to create an aura of differentiation in a highly competitive space. There is nothing notable about the firm you work for. There is no need to try to kludge it in to the consulting article. As you have a massive COI, that should have ethically been declared at a minimum. Given the history of your editing patterns, it's probably wise to avoid any future editing where you have any conflicts. There are literally millions of articles for you to edit, if you're serious about helping the thousands of honest volunteers that keep this project viable. Kuru (talk) 13:39, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Promoting Landmark

I made some edits to Landmark Worldwide page. I understand not all of them met guidelines new to editing and need to familiarise myself better.

But the new edits make Landmark seem like a legitimate personal development company, when there are many credible experts such as cult experts Rick Alan Ross who runs the Cult Education website and Mack Moore on Quora who affirm that Landmark is a cult.

Plus countless survivor testimonials on Ross' website, Quora, Reddit and including myself, which show that this is a dangerous harmful organisation whose intention is to turn people into sales reps for their courses.

I was in this cult for five years so I speak from hard won experience and have had to endure verbal abuse, bullying and discrimination because of my disability (ADHD) because of this group which has left me with a lifetime if trauma and PTSD.

I've also had to have calls with people where they have been angry at being harassed by Landmark having put themselves on do not call lists which was just ignored by Landmark. I also had to have a phonecall where a woman told me their female partner did the Forum and was triggered into committing suicide.

I understand you have critical parts in it but overall it is biased and reads like a brochure or propaganda tool for Landmark to recruit more innocent and vulnerable people. Wikipedia has a duty to not legitimise harmful organisations and he upfront in laying out plainly the issues with this training. Albert8879 (talk) 14:41, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

I've never seen the article or heard of the entity before today. As I noted, please direct your proposals to the article's talk page. It appears there are active editors there who can help you evaluate your sourcing. Please note that we cannot use mirrors - sites which copy Wikipedia articles. You will also need to use solid sourcing for the rest of the material. I understand you have strong feelings about the topic, but your best bet will be to have rational discussions with the other editors that frequent that material and build a consensus for your proposals. The information I added on synopsis, which I copied from over 10 years ago, is proven true by GMA Playground on YouTube.

GMA Playground is GMA Network’s digital playing field where kids can learn AND have fun. The whole previous sentence is copied from GMA Playground's Youtube Channel, specifically on their ABOUT page. Since Ilumina is a TV series that originally aired on GMA Network, the information that was originally there over 10 years ago is true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KyleTheBrozay (talkcontribs) 06:06, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Articles on nuclear reactors

Hello Kuru. I have a question about your edit on ThorCon_nuclear_reactor. "rmv non-WP:RS : open wiki / user-generated material" Is this a ban on anything originating on Citizendium? The statement you deleted was not intended as a reliable source, supporting some questionable point, but just an introductory statement to motivate the reader and set the focus of the article. I can replace that statement with something a little longer: "This reactor is one of many new-generation designs responding to the issues that have held back widespread use of nuclear power, include safety, waste management, weapons proliferation, and cost. This article will address those issues."
As for the material being user-generated, I'm not sure what to do about that. I wrote most of the original article ThorCon nuclear reactor for Citizendium, but I am not needing it as a reliable source. As I understand it, their Creative Commons licensing is the same as Wikipedia. How do we acknowledge the source, without saying anything about reliability? Is there a template to do this, or is it better to just add a statement, like the article on Molten Salt Reactors.
"This page is a shortened and simplified version of the Wikipedia article, focused on just the issues raised in Nuclear power reconsidered. See the original for more details and additional information on the history and recent developments in many countries." I hope there isn't some conflict between Wikipedia and Citizedium that would preclude this kind of cooperation. Thank you for your attention to this article.
David MacQuigg 02:06, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

There's no conflict - we just don't use non-source inline external links except in rare situations in the body of an article. It may be more suitable as a link in an "external links" section with some brief narrative on why it is included. If you've copied material from Citizendium, then a brief acknowledgement of the source would go at the end of the article. There's a template for that somewhere, but I could not locate it quickly - it's pretty rare again. It's always always best to use your own words instead of copying from another used-generate site, even one with a compatible license. Kuru (talk) 13:28, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I will copy this discussion to the article Talk page and hope that we can develop a consensus on sources for this article. David MacQuigg 15:31, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Our site was marked as spam

Kuru, my wife and I own the lifestyle blog ChaChingQueen. Yesterday I added, what I thought to be meaningful citations in 10 or so wikipedia pages to how to pages on our site. We were marked as spam and blacklisted. I added the citations in good faith and felt they increased the value of where they were added. I didnt attempt to do anything malicious, and certainly not spammy. I thought I was offering citations that were valid. I am still unsure why they aren't valid. For instance in the vinegar page there is a reference to cleaning silver. We have an entire blog post about cleaning silver using vinegar. That seemed like the perfect place to point a wikipedia user to that wanted to learn how to clean silver with vinegar. Plus I did it as a citation and not even a direct external link.

I also just realized I had created this account awhile ago. Perhaps they were spam because I created the citations without being logged in?

In any case, I meant no harm. Please consider removing me from the spam list and coaching me through what I should have done differently. Surely some of my additions were value add, but none were meant to devalue any page.

Thanks Greg — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gregwilsonstl (talkcontribs) 05:25, 23 April 2022 (UTC) Gregwilsonstl (talk) 05:56, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

You've used one account and no less than five IPs to spam links to your wife's affiliate blog across multiple articles. This is in no way a reliable source, and you were warned to stop four times. Do you have any intent to make any additions to the project that are not self-promotion? Kuru (talk) 13:47, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
5 different IPs? I tried to do citations a few weeks ago while on vacation at a friends house and was told i was doing it wrong. So I tried again yesterday from my house with what i thought was adding value. I have no idea how it could be more than 2.
"Warned" is very accusatory. I wasn't logged in so warning didnt go to me. Im so new to wikipedia that I just dont know what I'm doing. Yesterday when I tried to add citations I didnt even remember I had an account or I would have used it.
The simple fact is I mean well. I think my citations add value and are also self promotion. Judge that as you may but I mean well.
...and yes I do have intentions to make additions that are not self promotion. In a few of the changes I made yesterday I added content on otherwise thin (or incomplete) articles. Feel free to add the content back and remove my citations.
Please dont confuse lack of experience with ill intent and malicious spammy behavior. Im acting in good faith all along. Just because you see malicious behavior all day long doesn't mean mistakes aren't made.
How do all of the other people that cite their own sites get approved? Surely I am not special. Gregwilsonstl (talk) 17:39, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
Chachingqueen is nothing short of unreliable so it's use on wikipedia is, well, useless. Continuing to add a website that has no value to our readers is spamming, so maybe stop? PRAXIDICAE💕 17:46, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
I dont understand. Why is it unreliable? We'll have 95,000 page views this month with mostly how to clean articles and how to save money articles. Are you saying we should just take down our site because there's something you don't like about it or my sloppy inexperienced attempts to add citations? Gregwilsonstl (talk) 17:51, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
Because page views mean nothing, you're not a recognized published source, you're an affiliate blog. We would be a search engine if we allowed everyone who had the technical know how to operate a website just push their links here. I'm not Kuru but I suggest dropping it because it's likely to get blacklisted otherwise. PRAXIDICAE💕 17:53, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
It is blacklisted. I am asking for the blacklist to be removed.
I have been cited in many major publications, mostly for Finance. I am a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Your warnings to me about not being allowed to cite us because you dont think we are experts has been heard loud and clear. But blacklisting us for me being unintentionally sloppy is a bit strong. Please reconsider the blacklist.
Or better yet, please reconsider the blacklist and give me some coaching on what you look for in terms of "recognized published source". Gregwilsonstl (talk) 18:03, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Pratik Sen - Deletion of page drafted

Hi Kuru,

Pratik Sen is an established, award winning actor and public figure and the intent of the article was to prepare a wikipedia page for him, not to promote him. Appreciate your feedback that the language came across puffery. I have reframed the article to ensure the point of view is neutral. The article is definitely not promotional or spam. Who can help me reinstate the page so that I may make the necessary edit / amendments and submit the updated article for review. To reiterate, all information collated about Pratik Sen is factual and can be cross verified with multiple sources. Any information that could not be corroborated was never included.

Thanks & Regards AnamikaWrites (talk) 15:47, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

I've reviewed the article at your request: The references were generally unsuitable for a biography: IMDB, "Bookmyshow", other Wikipedia articles, Wikipedia mirrors, and blogs cannot be used. Much of the rest was unreferenced, including puffery like "very popular", "talented singer", "established himself as an artist to reckon with", "multi-talented and creative" and on and on. You are welcome to improve the existing WP:DRAFT at Draft:Pratik Sen‎ to address the problems, but please don't add another article like that. Thanks. Kuru (talk) 18:21, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Noted and much appreciate the guidance given. Will amend/ update the article accordingly and submit for review. Thanks once again, ---- AnamikaWrites (talk) 04:29, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi Kuru, I have amended the write up to make it neutral and would like you to review it and share feedback. I looked for the existing draft (WP:DRAFT at Draft: Pratik Sen) that I had written on Pratik Sen but could not find it. There is reference to drafts written by other contributors that were previously deleted.
Interestingly, I was able to see extracts of the text I had written under wikipedia but the write up did not come up when I clicked on it. Its not giving me the wikipedia reference anymore. Therefore, do I submit it as a new article ?
Thanks ---- AnamikaWrites (talk) 08:18, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
As noted on your talk page, the previous article you submitted was completely inappropriate and was deleted. I left you a link above to the existing draft of the article. You are welcome to improve that, but any similar to what you submitted before is likely to be deleted again. I would strongly advise against created a new non-draft article in the main encyclopedia - if it's similar to the previous attempt, you run the risk of having it formally deleted, which would add additional hurdles to re-creation. Given the nature of your edits, you may want to also read WP:PAID and make sure you're complying with the requirements there. Kuru (talk) 11:01, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
I am not considering PAID contributions. I am keen to learn how to write the articles. I choose people or subjects that interest me - i.e. people from the entertainment industry whose body of work or journey is impressive and resonates with me. Also, I have limited bandwidth at present as I have a regular job.
Ref Draft: Pratik Sen - I have improved the existing draft of the article using the link you sent. Request if you can review it for any further improvement as I have incorporated the feedback given by you - definitely not promotional, any puffery has been removed, not an attack page and no copyright violation - all references are tagged. Thanks ---- AnamikaWrites (talk) 11:46, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Counter Vandalism mentor

Hi. If you're able to, do take me under your wings as regards counter Vandalism. I'll be honoured to hone my skills under your tutelage. Thanks Amaekuma (talk) 15:37, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks - I'm always happy to answer questions. I don't really do the formal mentoring thing; that seems a little over-the-top for something as simple as counter-vandalism. Just watch recent changes and remove really obvious vandalism. Over time, try to work the more ambiguous cases. Kuru (talk) 22:38, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

In removing a citation from Academic Dictionaries and Encyclopedias could you explain to me what you mean by "still a mirror, it seems". Thanks ManfredHugh (talk) 13:54, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Please read the material I added to your talk page at the same time, which explains this in detail. If you are still confused, let me know. Kuru (talk) 13:58, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
Okay, yes I recall now: wikipedia is itself the suspected source for the cited material. Got it.ManfredHugh (talk) 14:14, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
That's correct, except less suspected and more "clearly attributed to Wikipedia on the page and an exact copy of an older version of the article." Kuru (talk) 14:16, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello Kuru! - Much Needed Help

I am very much new to Wikipedia and would like a helping hand in establishing a page. I don't know what are things required to approve the page. First of all, thank you for removing the link. Can you please guide me for the same? I really appreciate someone monitoring me. Looking forward to get a reply from you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruchasocialee (talkcontribs) 12:27, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

You can find the guidelines for writing an article here. Given the links you've added and the potential topic, I would urge you to be extremely careful; this is not the place for promotional material or unsupported medical claims. Kuru (talk) 12:39, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

Need your help Mr Kuru

Hello Mr Kuru, if you aren't to busy can you direct me to where I can read up about everything that has to do with Categories on pages in Wikipedia.. Thanks Amaekuma (talk) 10:03, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

Sure: Wikipedia:Categorization. Kuru (talk) 11:26, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

updates

Please do not remove the line "The USC and UCLA competition is the most prestigious and storied Dual Meet in the country" as it is referenced identical to the article as cited: http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/236988-USC-UCLA-Dual-Meet which reads "USC and UCLA will lock horns in the most prestigious and storied Dual Meet in the country on May 1 at Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus."

Please do not remove the word "inspiration" as it is referenced identical to the article as cited: www.sgvtribune.com/2012/05/04/mira-costa-features-quartet-of-talented-pole-vaulters which reads, "For inspiration, Mead gave each vaulter a pole vault professional they could model themselves after./ Scale’s comparison is Brandon Estrada, a former USC pole vaulter from Puerto Rico. "

You put back adjectives "smooth vocal" which Brandon Estrada requested removed. I have removed them again.

All corrected. Please remove the Flag notice you added to the top of the page. Wings (talk) 08:23, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Or we can avoid using silly puffery from press releases on blogs - I'll dig into the sourcing on that article when

I have time later. I'll leave you some pointers on handling COI on your talk page and tag the article with that as well. Thanks. Kuru (talk) 11:30, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Draft:Brandon Mason (TV personality)

Hello. I confess that you scared me. My article, according to me, had turned out well, and since I did not see a template for deletion, I considered that it had turned out perfect. I see that it has almost no references in the television area, but let's work together to improve it. I am at your command and disposal. If you allow me, I will edit your sandbox with good references, or I don't know if you really want me to help you. Thanks. ChuchoVCJMuzik (talk) 14:23, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

My preference is not to delete those outright, and allow a little time to fix it. I fear I will be unable to help; this does not appear to be a notable individual and there's been an extensive PR campaign across a lot of black hat and junk sources. You will need to avoid those; they give the appearance that this is a paid article. Kuru (talk) 22:52, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

Vandalism help requested

Hi Kuru, I would like to request your help with a sockpuppet investigation. I have made a post about an editor [1], and I think there are two accounts now. Since you have addressed some of the edits by this user [2], I feel you might have context to take a look. Let me know if I can provide any other information to help with the process. Unsourced material

Hi Kuru, I was about citing my content manually but as I was about publishing, the content has been deleted.May I know the reason please?

Best regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ebubechukwu1 (talkcontribs) 21:42, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Presuming this is Obi Cubana. You added personal material about a living person that lacked any sourcing. These are live articles: if you're going to add that material in the future, please include the source at the same time or very quickly thereafter. You can find the edit summaries of other contributors at the article's history. Kuru (talk) 22:38, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Block evader-related

Hi. I am giving you my congratulations for dealing with a block evader on my talk page from a sock puppet account created by Jinnifer. This wasn't the only time that person has took advantage of me. Good thing you caught that sock puppet before it can use me for it's own purposes. --Rtkat3 (talk) 01:12, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Additions to your scraper list?

Hi Kuru, your list of content scrapers with handy links to check if they are used in articles is extremely useful – and so is your mirrors list. Thank you! I suggest adding liverampup.com, hollywoodmask.com, and biographyhost.com to the list of scrapers; they are "niche brand websites" of sbwebtechnology per https://sbwebtechnology.com/faqs, and there are already two sbwebtechnology sites (marriedddivorce.com and wikinetworth.com) in your list. Right now there are 68 links to liverampup, 26 links to hollywoodmask, and 9 links to biographyhost in articlespace. From what I can tell they are junk (I mean, seriously!) – there's just something about companies who describe information in terms of "content"... Anyway, I could of course be wrong about the quality of those three sites, but I don't think I am. Best, --bonadea contributions talk 13:52, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

@Bonadea: Ugh. Apologies for the slow response - was just taking a bit of a break from just this kind of thing. These "branded content" sites are just endless and they all seem to copy from each other. I'm still getting caught up, but would be happy to look into it when I finish up mirrors and the completely fake ones. Thanks for digging in to the mess - it's good to know there's a few others around. Sam Kuru (talk) 01:39, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

British colonial era texts and records

Dear Kuru,

Can British colonial era texts and records be used as sources? How to find if wiki community has a concencus or not on a topic?I hope you would answer 😃 MrHyperForEver (talk) 10:46, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

I don't have any insights on the topic. The Reliable Sources Noticeboard may be a good place to open a discussion. Sam Kuru (talk) 11:32, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Ishaq Sidi Ishaq Edit Reversal

Hello Kuru, Regarding the page you reversed, Ishaq Sidi Ishaq, that is not a personal edit. I made the edit and I have no connection with him. I don't know him and have nothing to do with him. Instead of reversing, kindly update it if you have more acurate data, please. Safercontent (talk) 08:05, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

As noted, the source is a self-published blog post. By 'self', I mean the author published it himself without any oversight. You are free to restore the material with a reliable source. Sam Kuru (talk) 11:13, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Anselm Adodo

Hello Kuru, I edited the Anselm Adodo page (Anselm Adodo - Wikipedia) to make it neutral and also added citations where possible. However, you reverted my edits and I have also gone through your remark and read through the Wikipedia:Reliable sources - Wikipedia page. I want to attempt to edit the page section by section. However, I would like to ask if you can point me in the right direction of which sections on the article is being disputed. Thank you. Projumble (talk) 20:59, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

There were many reasons. First, you need to find reliable sources; "depedia" is very clearly noted as material pulled from that very article, "joebidenbio" is a garbage scraper site, one was a broken link, and other primary sources can't be used for some of the puffery - especially not for claims which deal with health topics. Most of the prose used is not neutral and encyclopedic, and certainly does not address the concerns of the templates you removed. It may be more helpful to discuss smaller edits on the article's talk page and get consensus before making sweeping changes like that. Sam Kuru (talk) 22:11, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you Kuru, your feedback is very detailed and will help me a lot as I look to make my first successful edit on wikipedia. I will go ahead and discuss smaller edits on the article's talk page and get consensus before I make the edits. Thanks again. Projumble (talk) 20:33, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Executive Search Links

I see your note about removing the link. I had tried to find other sources of the % of fee of retained search firms. However all seemed to be on very commercial-intent sites selling a service on the actual page that mentioned the fees, except one which was a blog post & infographic and seemed very on-topic, especially as it directly mentioned the fees. I note that it's been pending citation needed for several years. I'll try to find another source, but if not I guess I'll just leave as it is, pending citation. Will see what I can find though/ Cheers. Mike Gracia (talk) 01:44, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

Agreed - I poked around for a bit and could not find anything that didn't look suspect. Not sold on Hunt Scanlon articles, but maybe. There's just a lot of competition there at the moment, which seems to spontaneously generate inorganic marketing. Sam Kuru (talk) 01:51, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

Are edit wars ever acceptable?

Hi,

I would like to know what your views are on the recent edit war on sherwani which got me partially blocked for a week from the page. I was involved in a conflict to include a conflicting research theses and logically counteracted all opposers in my edit summaries. I typically refrain from debating/seeking consensus on the talk pages as most users play "wait-it-out" games and do not respond.

Pls disregard my very initial behaviour as I had just opened my account and was not familiar with the policies. Thank you

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherwani Fayninja (talk) 02:10, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

Just for completeness, which accounts did you edit with before? You seem to be referring to previous disputes, but your account is three days old. Sam Kuru (talk) 11:25, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
No previous experience bro...I had dropped in a question on the sherwani talk page to see if anyone responds or not but they all seem to only come live during edit wars. No worries it doesn't matter anymore, the theses is on the web anyways for people that really wanna dive deep into the topic and research. Thanks for your time! Cheers! Draft:Syed Falak

Hi Kuru, I hope you are doing well. Can we move this draft Draft:Syed Falak to the article space? Or do we still need to improve it before doing this.

Thank you GKP Team (talk) 17:17, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Significant improvement would be needed. Significant and reliable sourcing would be a start. Given the sheer number of SEO/PR sources I've removed, this just looks like promotion of a non-notable person. Sam Kuru (talk) 17:23, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your response. Where do I need to add sources? If you could please add "citation needed" to the exact place, it would be greatly appreciated. RocksGavin (talk) 22:51, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
There are two more sources that need to be improved - they're more weak PR blog posts. Basically everything needs to be sourced by WP:RS. There needs to be some claim of notability. Given the history of the draft, you may want to read through WP:COI and ensure that you've complied with the requirements there. Sam Kuru (talk) 00:14, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

Regarding KnowTechie

I recently came across a note you had given to one of your contributors regarding KnowTechie.com. You paint us badly and say we're not a legitimate news source. My name is Kevin, and I'm the founder and EIC. Yes, I work for a PR agency, but under no circumstances do we ever write about our clients. That would be an extreme breach of ethics. You mention something about us being on guest posts lists as if we have any control over that. Look around, you can find the very same thing happening to publishers all over; it's just not us.

You clearly did some research, but somehow you were blinded by the fact that I work in PR, as if that's a bad thing. I work in communications, I have a degree for it, I'm putting it to use.

Labeling us as SEO/PR firm blog masked as a news site is extremely unfair and insulting to the 7-10 journalists (these are folks who also work at SlashGear, The Guardian, Business Insider and countless other places) who work here.

I'm not asking you to reverse any submissions placed on Wikipedia, but I can't just sit around and let someone slander our hard work. Sure, there are bad actors from time to time, but for the most part, we try to keep a tight ship here.

Again, this isn't an attempt to reverse any of your decisions, but mainly hoping to change your perspective. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User%3AKuru%2Farchive-64#Question_about_using_KnowTechie_as_a_source

Kevin 17:36, 28 December 2022 DosileTakeover (talk) 17:44, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Your tight ship is leaky. Most, if not all, of your publicly disclosed clients appear in promotional articles on your "news site". Your blog is not a reliable source for the purposes of Wikipedia in the best case. There have been dozens of utterly non-notable "serial entrepreneurs" that have popped up on your site in the middle of a campaign, alongside other known SEO sinks. Since you've decided not to disclose conflicts of interest or labeled press releases/paid placement your side is even less usable. I'm sure there are other avenues for placing your work, but it will be removed here. Sam Kuru (talk) 18:28, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate the feedback and will be conducting a thorough content audit to address the issues raised. My goal is to improve the site and provide a better experience for our readers, not to seek favor with Wiki. Appreciate your input. If there's anything that jumps out at you, feel free to reach out. Understanding the WikiProject Spam

Hi Kuru, I have recently joined Wikipedia, and a friend of mine sent me your "fakesources" page, which is very useful. Thank you. Currently, I am in the process of increasing my understanding of policies and norms on Wikipedia. In this regard, I was checking sources and their usability/credibility on Wikipedia. Some of which appeared in multiple Wikipedia: WikiProject Spam/linkReports. However, they were not mentioned in your list. I want to understand, what's the purpose of WikiProject Spam and how they help us. Should we consider sources appearing in Wikipedia: WikiProject Spam/linkReports, as non-credible, or the specific article would be considered non-credible? Please, help.

Thanks in advance. 1OA9 (talk) 20:34, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
