Central Broadcast News, almost always referred to by its initialism CBN, is the closed-circuit television network of Central High School of Philadelphia. The network was founded in 1997. Since its inception, it has provided students and faculty with important need-to-know information through student-produced entertainment. CBN broadcasts to the entire school during daily advisory periods and is in partnership with Channel One, a national news program fed to high schools. Its flagship program is the CBN Morning Show, which launched in January 2009. CBN reaches nearly 2300 students and over 100 faculty.

1997-2008[edit]
CBN began broadcasting in 1997 and was a large step forward for broadcast media within the school. During this time, CBN has developed into a source for students and staff to obtain information on events occurring within the school and the greater Philadelphia area. In addition, student-produced short films were the staple of the network during the time period.
2009: Growth and Change[edit]
With the launch of the CBN Morning Show, the network has been committed to expanding its coverage to not only short films and school- and community-wide events, but interviews with important individuals related to Central, weather forecasts, and entertainment features.

The CBN Morning Show, commonly referred to as just The Morning Show, broadcasts to nearly all classrooms of the school on Monday and Thursday mornings at approximately 8:10am. Originally designed to be a talk/entertainment program, the show also features top headlines at the start of the program followed by an interview or a short performance/demonstration. CBN Weather was launched in late March 2009 and has been regularly featured as another service to the school.
CBN Originals[edit]
Every Monday morning, the show features a student-produced short film which typically ranges from two to ten minutes. Many are light and comical, while some focus on more serious subjects, including documentaries. Most movies that are presented are created by students in Radio and Television I and II using iMovie HD software.
Great Movies You Haven't Seen[edit]
Once a month, the entertainment correspondent and technical director of the show review an unusual, yet entertaining movie. The movie can either be newly released in theaters or recently released on DVD. The two are comparable to Ebert and Roper and even try to convince viewers whether they should watch or pass on the movie being reviewed.
Cooking with Anita[edit]
Every other Thursday, CBN's chef Anita whips up a scrumptious dish that is both elegant and easy to make for high school students. Dishes range from baked chicken to fruit-topped cheesecake to smoked salmon and veggies.
Special Reports[edit]
The launch of the show was near the inauguration of President Barack Obama and many special segments were focused on this event. Random interviews with students on their thoughts were broadcasted and one of the hosts even traveled to Washington, D.C. to file a report from the event. Special segments will be continued to air in the future.

The official description of CBN reads: "Members work to provide the student body and faculty with laughter and school related information. From the school’s sporting events to the video valentines, CBN is always there to give an 'up to the minute' report." [1]
