Julie Sahni (née Deepalakshmi Ranganathan Iyer; born 16 October 1945) is an award-winning cookbook author, cooking teacher, and restaurant chef. Her culinary career followed her earlier accomplishments as a dancer, architect, and urban planner. Her first book, Classic Indian Cooking, has been heralded as one of the 20 most essential cookbooks by the James Beard Foundation.[1] She served as the executive chef for the New York City restaurants Nirvana and Nirvana Club one from 1983 to 1986.
