Oscar controversy[edit]

In September 2013, the Film Federation of India (FFI) selected The Good Road, a film by Gyan Correa, as India's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category in the Oscars. Batra publicly took exception to the process by which the competing film was selected. [1] In response, the FFI sent him a letter, copied to producer Anurag Kashyap and his production company Phantom Films, taking him to task for his criticism and demanding an unconditional apology. [2] Batra replied with a letter he termed an apology but in which he continued to question the film selection process.[3]
