Assignment: Article Discussion Contribution

Due Date: Monday, October 12, 2011

If you are writing a new entry, you will need to initiate a new article discussion page, otherwise you will be adding to an existing article discussion page. If you are contributing to an existing entry, make sure to read previous comments and note any concerns about the page or recent edits. Note that Wikipedia says discussion pages are “to provide space for editors to discuss changes to its associated article or project page. Article talk pages should not be used by editors as platforms for their personal views on a subject.”

Instructions:

  • If you are creating a new article you will begin by starting your new wikipedia page
  • To create a new article start by typing the name into the Wiki search bar
  • If the page does not yet exist you will get a message saying, You may create the page "New article", but consider checking the search results below to see whether the topic is already covered.
  • Click on the red text with your article name and proceed with the discussion contribution as described below

2) Click on the "Discussion" tab in the upper-left hand corner of the Wiki interface

3) Once in the discussion page, take the time to read what other users have already said concerning content on that page

4) Next, click "Edit" to add your discussion contribution, following discussion guidelines

5) To add a new discussion post you will need to create a heading of the form ==Your Heading Here==

6) The most recent posts should be placed at the bottom of the discussion page
