Assignment: Creating an Account

While Wikipedia allows for any user to create or edit an entry without registering, creation of an account is required for this assignment. This will allow the teacher to confirm that you are the one creating entries, contributing to discussion pages, and editing articles. Creating an account also provides two advantages:

1) Creating an account is necessary to become autoconfirmed, which allows a user to edit semi-protected pages.

2) It adds legitimacy to you as a User and allows other users to provide feedback and address you directly.

Instructions:

1) Go to any wikipedia page

2) Click the link entitled Sign In/creaste account found in the upper right corner

3) Follow the directions listed to create your account

Assignment: Creating a User Page

To give an added level of legitimacy to your Wikipedia account, you must also create a user page. This will provide you with a space to give basic information about yourself and your Wiki related activities as well as to host any subpages or sandboxes relevant to your work on Wikipedia

Instructions:

1) Click on your newly created account name that appears in the upper right hand corner of the Wikipedia interface

2) You will then be directed to your user page at which point you can add content by typing in the white text box and clicking "Save Page"

3) After saving page changes, any links containing your account name will change in color from red to blue indicating that a linked page now exists
