Welcome to my Wikipedia User page. My real name is Jim Barbe and I have lived in St. Marys, Georgia since 1993 (with the exception of 1.5 years in Bangor, WA with the Navy). I am a new Wikipedia contributor who finds that editing Wiki pages is extremely time consuming. I do have a life beyond the computer, although the TV is practically the same thing as a computer. Maybe I am just addicted to sitting and staring at glowing boxes?

Background[edit]

Naval Background[edit]

I am a US Navy veteran with twenty years in the United States Submarine Force, including twenty strategic deterrent submarine patrols. So if you need to know about fires, flooding, or hiding from the Russians, I am your man. Previous commands include the USS Von Steuben (SSBN-632), USS West Virginia (SSBN 736), USS Louisiana (SSBN 743) and Trident Training Facility, Kings Bay, GA. Awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Achievement Medals along with the Gold SSBN Deterrent Patrol insignia for completion of twenty SSBN patrols.

Educational Background[edit]

I have a Masters in Education from Valdosta State University, specializing in adult and career education. I also have an Applied Technology Diploma in Marine Electronics and a Journeyman’s Apprenticeship Certificate in the field "Electronics Mechanic" from the U.S. Department of Labor.

TRIDENT Submarine Force[edit]

My expertise lies in the TRIDENT and the fleet ballistic missile submarine domain. My navy ratings were Fire Control Technician (Ballistic) and Missile Technician. I will most likely edit and create pages that deal with the United States Navy nuclear submarine force, TRIDENT missile systems, and their associated support systems.

When dealing with the military data, all information that I edit or create will be unclassified, public domain information. Some technical information I will not be able to comment on because that would lend credibility to the information which would violate my non-disclosure agreement with the government.

Local Area[edit]

Since I am from St. Marys, GA, I will also update pages associated with the city, county, and the local submarine base

63rd Virginia Infantry[edit]

I will research this infantry unit when time permits since my Great-grandfather was a member of the unit during the Civil War.
