Hermann Voss (30 July 1884 - 28 April 1969) was a German art historian and special commissioner for the planned Führermuseum.

Early life and career[edit]

Museum director[edit]

Sonderauftrag Linz[edit]

In March 1943 Voss was approached by Goebbels who offered him the directorship of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Lack of a party membership proved to be no obstacle: Hans Posse had apparently asked for Voss' appointment on his death bed. A few days later he was received by Hitler personally who instructed him to acquire 19th century German and Old Masters paintings for the planned Fuhrermuseum in Linz. Voss used a small number of trusted agents to acquire art in the occupied countries. Prominent among those was Hildebrand Gurlitt.[1]

After the war[edit]
