Shea Couleé is the stage name of American drag queen, dancer and singer Jaren Merrell. She came to prominence as one of the contestants of RuPaul's Drag Race season 9. In the reality show, Merrell became a popular figure and won four challenges, more than any other performer on the show, and finished 3rd/4rd after the format change of the finale. As Shea Couleé, Merrell released Couleé-D, a visual album. Merrel also directed, wrote and starred in Lipstick City, a short film featuring several figures of Chicago's queer nightlife.

RuPaul's Drag Race[edit]
In March 2017, Merrell was announced as one of the 13 contestants of RuPaul's Drag Race ninth season. Merrell won four challenges in the season, including two joined wins with Sasha Velour, and became one of the contestants with the best track on the show's history. She landed in the bottom in the Makeover Challenge, lipsynching against Nina B'onina Brown to Demi Lovato's "Cool for the Summer", and finally winning the lipsynch. She went on to be part of the Final Four and move on to the Final Lipsynch for the Crown. She lipsynched against good friend Sasha Velour to Whitney Houston's "So Emotional", finally losing the lipsynch and allowing Sasha Velour to win the title of America's Next Drag Superstar.
After the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race, Merrell, as Shea Couleé released a visual album entitled Couleé-D, including songs "Cocky", "Ride" and "Feeling So", which were surprisingly released as the album's single on the same day.[2] "Cocky" included collaborations from Lila Star and The Vixen, both fellow Chicago performers, and is the only video of the three songs that Merrell himself directed. The full album has a total of 11 tracks.
On July 4th, Couleé announced she was working with Azaelia Banks on a studio collaboration.[3]
