April 6 - A Czecheslovakian Airlines flight is hijacked and, with the participation of the pilot and two members of the flight crew, is flown into U.S.-occupied West Germany.
May 4 - A second hijacking of a Czechoslovakia Airline's flight is hijacked by two men and forced to land in West Germany.
June 4 - Shortly after leaving Belgrade, two men hijack a Yugoslavian Airlines airliner and direct the plane to land at Bari, Italy.
June 17 - A Soviet-Romanian Airways flight is hijacked to Saltzburg, Austria.
June 30 - A Bulgarian Airways pilot and two flight crew members are killed during a hijacking attempt by several men to land in Istanbul, Turkey.
July 16 - A Cathay Pacific airliner crashes into the sea following a failed hijacking by four men, resulting in the deaths of the pilot and two members of the flight crew, after taking off from Macao.
September 12 - Shortly after leaving Athens, Greece, a Salonika-bound airliner is hijacked by eight men and forced to fly to Tetovo, Yugoslavia.
