"Azul" (English: Blue) is a song and title track written by Kike Santander and Gustavo Santander and performed by Mexican singer-songwriter Cristian Castro. It was released as the lead single from his seventh studio album Azul (2001).
Background and composition[edit]
In 1999, Cristian Castro released his sixth studio album, Mi Vida Sin Tu Amor, which was produced by Colombian musician Kike Santander.[1] Although the album was met with mixed reviews,[1][2][3] [4]
It is a pop rock power ballad reminiscent of the 1980s. The San Antonio Express-News editor Ramiro Burr compared the track to Castro's 1992 song "No Podrás" with its "driving percussions and searing guitar lines".[5]
Promotion and reception[edit]
"Azul" was released as the album's lead single on 3 May 2001.[6] A music video, directed by Pedro Torres, was shot in 2001 in South Beach, Florida. The music video was premiered on Primer Impacto on June 6 and aired on MTV on June 7; and starred two models and some Castro's friends.[7] The music video was included on Nunca Voy a Olvidarte...Los Exitos DVD.
At the 2002 Billboard Latin Music Awards, the song received a nomination for Latin Pop Airplay of the Year which was awarded to Juan Gabriel for "Abrázame Muy Fuerte".[8] The song also received a Lo Nuestro Award nomination for Pop Song of the Year which was also awarded to "Abrázame Muy Fuerte" by Gabriel.[9]
