Stevie K Band is a UK blues rock band whose music blends blues with rock and funk. They are most notable for seamlessly mixing Hard Rock style riffs with traditional blues structure.

Previous Work[edit]

Stevie K (Born Steven James Kelly on 17th February 1980, in Hitchin, Hertfordshire) Was previously the guitarist and songwriter for the Rap/Rock band Skua which also featured singer Paul Cattermole, known mostly as a member of the group S Club 7. Skua existed from 1995 to 1997 and then with a different line up (with Stevie on vocals) from 1999 to 2001. During this same period Stevie was a member of the Heavy Metal band Fister who had a release on Extract Records. In early 2002 the original line up of Skua (with Paul Cattermole on vocals) reformed following his departure from S Club 7 but this lasted only until late 2002 after the band split up over a conflict of interests. In 2004 Stevie wrote the song Lost Generation for the Microsoft X Box computer game Halo 2 alongside other acts Korn and Snoop Dogg. In 2005 Stevie was part of E4 television programme California Dreaming set in Los Angeles.

Influences[edit]

Stevie K's guitar playing is often likened to Stevie Ray Vaughan in reference to his heavy attack and strong rhythms. However, Stevie K was also majorly influenced by Tom Morello, Robben Ford, Albert King, Eric Johnson, Eric Gales, Chris Cain, Doyle Dykes, Billy Gibbons, Carl Verheyen, Matt Schofield and Brian Setzer. He is noted for his use of a delay pedal set to slapback which, combined with the guitar's volume knob, is manipulated to create intricate arpeggios. Other unorthodox playing techniques include using a pint glass as a slide. The influence of Rock bands such as Audioslave and Tool and Steely Dan can also be heard in his music.
As of 2009, all Stevie K Band material will be played using Eb Flat tuning in the guitars and bass.

Members[edit]

The Stevie K Band consists of Stevie K guitar, vocals Rob Tree, Bass and Tim Deal Drums.

Present Day[edit]

Stevie has been working as a writer for Harleymoon Kemp as well as other songwriting projects alongside fellow band member Tim deal. As a band they have also branched out as a mostly instrumental Fusion group adding keyboards and saxaphone to their lineup. A new Stevie K Band album is due out in 2010 expected to showcase more of a pop friendly sound as well as some of the jazz-fusion textures.
