Georg Marius Reinald Levinsen (born 23 January 1850 in Hørsholm, died 9 August 1914) was a Danish zoologist.

He was the son of conciliation commissioner Jens Levinsen and Amanda f. Brockdorff and was born in Hørsholm on 23 January 1850. After going to his hometown's Realskole until the age of 16, he began studying for the Examen artium in Copenhagen, but at his father's death in 1866, the teaching was interrupted until the following year, with the help of relatives, he was admitted to Rander's learned school, from which he graduated as a student in 1869 . In 1874, he took a master's degree in natural history with zoology as his main subject, and the following year traveled with the support of the Thottske Legat to Greenland, where he stayed until the autumn of 1877. He worked as an assistant at the Zoological Museum for some years, and in 1885 he was promoted tto inspector.[1]^[1]

In 1885, he married Caroline Ulrikke Bonnesen, daughter of shipyard director Bonnesen in Malmö.

Of his scientific works, which are for the most part published in the Natural History Association's "Scientific Notices", mention must be made of: " Contribution to Knowledge on Greenland's Turbellarian Fauna " from 1879, " Contribution to Knowledge on Greenland's Trematode Fauna " from 1881, " Systematic-geographic Overview of the Nordic Annulata, Gephyrea, Chaetognathi and Balanoglossi " published 1882-83, also 4 treatises on the fauna of the Kara Sea (1887), some contributions to " Det scientifique Udbytte af Kanon- baaden "Hauchs" Togter " published 1891-93, " Medusa, Ctenophores and Hydroids from the west coast of Greenland "from 1893 and a larger contribution on bryophytes with 9 plates in folio to "Zoologia Danica" from 1894. Through these and his other works, he managed to deliver skilled and reliable contributions both to the knowledge of the fauna of the regions in question and to the systematics and structural conditions of the animals in question.[3]^[2]

In 1896 he received the Science Society's gold medal for a work on the bryozoans in the Danish Cretaceous Formation.[4]^[3]

His zoological author abbreviation is Levinsen.^[4]
