The Ian Potter Museum of Art houses the University of Melbourne's art collections and is Australia's leading university art museum. Designed by Melbourne architect Nonda Katsalidis, the building was made possible by the generosity of founding donors and the Ian Potter Foundation.

The Potter's mission is to collect, preserve, display and interpret contemporary and historical works of art thereby advancing appreciation of Australia's cultural heritage on a local, national and international level, and supporting the University of Melbourne as a leading teaching and research institution. The Potter present about 16 curatored exhibition over three level, free to the public.

The museum also administers the Basil Sellers Art Prize, awarded every second year, which provides a range of awards for artists. In addition to the $100,000 prize, the finalists are in the running for the Basil Sellers Creative Fellowship, an artist-in- residency program at the National Sports Museum, and the $5,000 Yarra Trams People’s Choice award, voted on by visitors to the Exhibition.
