ASIA-PACIFIC ECONOMIC COOPERATION, 2015 —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

APEC 2015 is the year-long lasting arranging of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings held in the republic of the Philippines which will take place from November 18-19, Metro Manila. This will be the second time that the Philippines are hosting an APEC, which first happened in year 1996. In 2015, APEC will expand the region’s growth story to include a vision of economic prosperity and interconnectedness felt at all levels, beginning at the grassroots. As regional economic integration continues to take form and strengthen, APEC 2015 will orient policies and initiatives through the prism of its inclusive growth strategy. Integration, as such, will be defined and advanced not only for the benefit of economies but also for the people that drive economic growth.

Makati City in Metro Manila hosted the first APEC 2015 meeting, the Informal Senior Officials' Meeting (ISOM), from 8 to 9 December 2014. Originally slated to be held in Legazpi City, Albay, the meeting was transferred to Makati as storm signals were raised in the former due to Typhoon Ruby.[18] During the meeting, the Philippines' priorities for APEC 2015 meetings were approved, namely: investing in human capital development; fostering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) participation in regional and global markets; building sustainable and resilient communities; and enhancing the regional economic integration agenda. The First Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM1) and Related Meetings were held in Clark Freeport, Angeles, Pampanga and Subic Bay, Zambales, from 26 January to 7 February 2015.[19] The island of Boracay in Aklan hosted the Second Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM2) and Related Meetings from 9–21 May 2015[20] and the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) Meeting from 23–24 May.[21] The Third Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3) and Related Meetings were held in Cebu City from 22 August to 6 September, followed by the APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting from 10–11 September. Other ministerial meetings and events were held in various locations in the Philippines, such as Iloilo City for the Small and Medium Enterprise ministerial meeting on 21–25 September, the Senior Disaster Management Officials Forum on 22–23 September, and the High-Level Policy Dialogue on Food Security and the Blue Economy and Related Meetings from 28 September to 6 October 2015.[22]

The highlight of the series of meetings, the Economic Leaders' Meeting, will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Metro Manila on 18–19 November.[23] President Aquino will host a welcome dinner for the visiting economic leaders at the Mall of Asia Arena.[24]
