Kate Kotler, aka. Adorkable Grrl, is a freelance writer, blogger and editor. Kotler was born Katherine Emily Galen on 15 November, 1973 in Elgin, Illinois. She is the oldest of three siblings and grew up in Kent, Ohio. She currently resides in Chicago, Illinois.
Kotler is the Founding Editor for geek pop-culture website, Geek Girl on the Street. She is most noted for her celebrity interviews in the format of the weekly column, "Geek of the Week." In 2010 she interviewed Neil Gaiman, Kari Byron, Christian Finnegan, Jonathan Ross, Charlaine Harris and Gail Simone among others. In addition to Geek Girl on the Street, Kotler writes the blog Food Pr0n Lovers, which is an affiliate of the Food Buzz network. She also is a paid how-to writer for Demand Studios, contributing most often to eHow.
In 2007, Kotler interviewed Kati Kim[1] [2] following the death of her husband, CNet editor, James Kim. Kotler's was the only interview Kati Kim gave following a 10 day ordeal stranded in the Oregon wilderness with her family. Subsequently, she went on to appear on Good Morning America[3] in support of the James Kim Technology Foundation.
Kate Kotler wrote the stories "Confessions of a Professional Fire Eater"[4] and "Bunk Bed Rock" for Fray: A Quarterly of True Stories in 2007 and 2008. She also has contributed to to RealMental.org [5] under the pen name Muriel Lipke. She has contributed articles and columns to Bitch Buzz, DollyMix, Girly Geekdom, Attention Deficit Delirium, Broke-Ass Stuart's Goddamn Website and Creative Humans magazine.
Kotler's writing focus is mainly on geek pop-culture, crafting and food, though she occasionally does write about fashion and politics.
Family[edit]
Kotler is the only daughter of Dr. Nancy Padak and Edward Galen. Her biological parents are divorced and she recognizes her step-father, Gary Padak as her father. She grew up in Kent, Ohio where her parents were professors in education at Kent State University. She has two brothers, Michael and Matthew. In 1996 Kotler married Todd Kotler, they divorced in 1998. Kotler is the niece of lighting designer Niel Galen.
