My name is Mike Guarino. I am a graduate student at the University of Kansas focusing on Plains and Rocky Mountain archaeology. I graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2009 with a B.S. in Anthropology. For the past five summers I have been a part of the Mugello Valley Archaeological Project in Vicchio, Italy. The first summer (2008) I was enrolled as a student, while from 2009- 2012 I have been a staff member and trench supervisor. Through this job I have been exposed to many different sides of an archaeological project, including mapping, site photography, and lab work. My primary job during these past four seasons has been to teach students new to archaeology the basic principles and skills required for archaeological fieldwork while simultaneously being the primary source of documentation for the 5x5 meter trench assigned to me for the semester. Since graduating from SMU I have had many different jobs in different regions of the country. I primarily have lived on the East Coast in the Philadelphia area, but spent one winter pursuing a personal dream to teach skiing in Vermont. I have lived in Cedar Park, TX for the past year, working on landscaping and other home improvement projects for people in the Cedar Park area.
