Carmen E. Rodriguez is an American lawyer.

Biography[edit]

As a child, Rodriguez remembers her family dressing in traditional Mexican costumes to celebrate 16 de Septiembre in Juarez.[1] In 1989, Rodriguez was named Woman of the Year in Law by the El Paso Women's Political Caucus (EPWPC).[2] The Mexican American Bar Association named her an "Outstanding Lawyer" in 1991.[3] Rodriguez formed a law firm with Mario M. Lewis, called Rodriguez & Lewis in 1992.[4] Also in 1992, Rodriguez was part of a celebration of "Chicanismo" and to celebrate the final days of the CARA exhibit in El Paso.[5] She was made the chair of the Hispanic Leadership Institute in 1995 and she promised to advocate for the poor in El Paso and increased funding for the El Paso Public Library.[6]

Rodriguez has worked on cases to help El Paso garment workers received owed backpay,[7] She helped found the Border Labor Law Center.[3]

In 2009, Rodriguez was inducted into the El Paso Women's Hall of Fame for civic leadership.[8]
