The ENIAC Programmers Project

About[edit]

The ENIAC Programmers Project is involved in highlighting women programmers in history, not just those who worked on the ENIAC.[1]

History[edit]

Kathy Kleiman began the search to discover more about the ENIAC programmers when she was a student at Harvard in 1985.[2] Initially in her research, Kleiman found that the women who programmed the ENIAC had been mis-identified as "refrigerator ladies," a term used for female models who posed in front of machines and appliances to help market them.[2][3] Photographs containing the programmers did not identify them by name.[4] Kleiman decided to identify the women and find them.[4] She finally met them in 1986, during the 40th anniversary of the ENIAC group, where she started to get their stories and share information about them to the world at large.[4]
