This article is about the Character Blue from the movie franchise Jurassic World.

Lead[edit]

Blue is an genetically mutated Velociraptor in the Jurassic World movies. Seen as a fierce and kind dinosaur Blue is a key component to the plot and storyline of most of the movies appearing in major events. Through the movies we see the velociraptor in danger and saving people from danger you never know what you will see next. Blue gets his name due to the Blue streak across his head that the other raptors didn't have. The dinosaurs in the movies were formed in a special way to make the movies look as realistic as possible.

Blue's Introduction and Story[edit]

Blue was introduced in Jurassic World with her sisters Delta, Echo, and Charlie. Blue was not only the oldest but also the only one to survive after an attack of a rex. Even though the velociraptors were very dangerous and considered super-predators due to their modified DNA they trusted Owen Grady to train them.[1] After the attack of the rex all of the humans evacuated the island but left blue behind. In the movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which happens to be two years later, Grady and his friend Claire head back to the island to rescue the dinosaurs including Blue from a volcano.[2] What makes Blue extra special and desirable is that she is able to asexually reproduce due to the lizard DNA in her system. Due to her reproduction abilities she has a daughter named Beta who is like a clone. Blue and Beta live in the woods near Grady's hidden home. Some of the biggest scenes involving Blue include when she helps fight the rex and when she saves Grady's life. Blue was hunted by Dr. Henry Wu for her DNA because they could use it to breed similar creatures. After being captured she was set loose shortly after. [3]

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous[edit]

Blue plays a huge role in the show. In the beginning there are six teenage campers who keep running into Blue and every time they do they grow a stronger and stronger bond to one another. Blue was hunted down by big game hunters while she was drinking but the campers saved Blue's life. They later find out that Blue lives in the remains of the visitor center from the original Jurassic Park.[2]

Movie Velociraptor[edit]

The velociraptor in real life and the claimed to be velociraptor in Jurassic world are not the same dinosaur. The velociraptor from the movie is actually based off of a full skeleton of a deinonychus antirrhopus which was sold for $12.4 million. The reason they used a deinonychus antirrhopus as their velociraptors was because they are bigger and far more aggressive then actual velociraptors. They chose to keep the velociraptor name because it sounded way more fearful and just built their characters up.[4]

Appearance[edit]

While there are a total of seven Jurassic Park and World movies, Blue is only spotted in three movies and a show. The movies include Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World: Domination. The show that Blue stars in is called Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.[5]

Behind the Scenes[edit]

In order to film Blue in the movies they had to use technology called two-part virtual reality. An actor is hooked up to many sensors that track the actor's movements. One director guides the actor in their movements while another director figures out how to connect the sensors to the actor and make sure everything flows well.[6] They are very handy with their skilled visual manipulation and have to make sure everything is perfect.[7]
