  • Stippling brush - This brush has a soft texture that won't irritate the skin. It is most often used for a quick, full-coverage foundation application over skin of any texture.[2]
  • disposable mascara brushes are also used, usually when mascara is being applied on multiple different people. (added to "Mascara wand" definition)
  • In the application of the makeup, the brush itself is important because it can determine how the product is applied: depending on the makeup brush type and its bristles, it could either densely pack or loosely apply the makeup product. (added to "Types of makeup brush bristles", last sentence of paragraph)

Depending on how frequently makeup brushes are used, they should be washed anywhere from once a week to once a month. For makeup brushes that are used daily, particularly with creams or liquids, it is recommended that they are washed once a week. For makeup brushes that aren't used as frequently and deal with powder substances (e.g. powder blush or bronzer), washing at least once a month it sufficient. Care should be taken to wash makeup brushes that are used around the eyes, such as eyeliner brushes or eyeshadow brushes. [3]

It is recommended to clean a makeup brush on a paper towel in between uses. To wash makeup brushes, a makeup brush cleanser, gentle face wash, or even a gentle shampoo can be used. [4]

  1. wet the bristles of the brush with lukewarm water
  2. place a small amount of cleanser on the palm of the hand
  3. gently rub the brush into the cleanser with circular motions
  4. rinse the brush under lukewarm water. repeat steps 2-4 until the water runs clear.
  5. using a paper towel, squeeze the extra moisture out of the brush. reshape the bristles into their proper shape as needed
  6. lay the brush out to dry overnight, preferably hanging over counter top
