I am currently studying for my honours on Bachelors of Information Science, specializing in Multimedia. As part of my Hypermedia class we are taking a practical approach and creating user accounts on Wikipedia, editing articles, fixing links and perhaps writing an article if it doesn't already exist.
Wikipedia is built on hypertext, hyperlinks and images. Hypermedia is the umbrella term for having hypertext, hyperlinks, videos, graphics and sound in any online medium.
Hypermedia is what makes websites what they are and what they were before. It is a tool used to relay information in an organised manner. It is what helps give a website "personality". The Internet, as we know it today, would not exist without hypermedia.
