The student that Created Mpesa launched in Kenya March 2007. A then student of Kenyatta University in Kenya Michael N Gichuri came up with the mobile Mpesa money transfer that could allow people to send, receive, and withdraw money from their mobile devices. Safaricom however acquired the project from the student. Mr Michael Gichuri now lives in Los Angeles California U.S.A. In March 2007, following the student development project from Kenya, Safaricom launched a new mobile phone-based payment and money transfer service, known as M-Pesa.
