The Education–industrial complex is a blanket term referring to those parts of the college/university establishment which are motivated primarily by a capitalist strategy for maximizing profits with little regard for the educational goals of students and the barriers that are making higher education ever more difficult to attain.

In recent years, the EIC has been the focus of increasing concern[1][2][3] over issues such as burgeoning student loans[4], increasing privatization[5], and limited access[6].
