George S. Tavlas is an economist and author serving on the Monetary Council of the Bank of Greece.[1] In 2012 he was Research Director at the Bank of Greece and Alternate to the Governor of the Bank of Greece on the European Central Bank's Governing Council.[2]Tavlas, representing the Bank of Greece spoke at the Cato Institute's 30th Annual Monetary Conference in 2013.[3]
He has done extensive research in the field of monetary economics,[4] publishing articles in the History of Political Economy, a journal published by Duke University,[5] and in the Journal of Economic Perspectives.[6] In 2019 he wrote The intellectual origins of the monetarist counter-revolution reconsidered: how Clark Warburton influenced Milton Friedman's monetary thinking for Oxford Economic Papers.[7]

He was a visiting professor at the University of Leicester.[8] In 2017 he was a Visiting Scholar at the Becker Friedman Institute of the University of Chicago.
He is a Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University,.[9] and in 2019 he became a member of the Advisory Board of the History of Political Economy.
