Chris Kemp is a British association football superfan, best known for the number of consecutive matches of Queens Park Rangers he has attended.

Football[edit]

Chris Kemp grew up in Harrow, London, and attended his first Queens Park Rangers F.C. during the 1977-79 football season, when they played at home against Newcastle United F.C.. As his father disliked football, he was taken by his grandmother's decorator who held a QPR season ticket. In September 1989, Kemp began a streak of consecutive QPR matches with a 1-0 defeat away by Manchester City F.C.. At the time he was a season ticket owner, but missed the first four games of the season as he was on holiday in the United States.[1] He has overcome ticket issues during the streak, such as during the ban of away fans by Luton Town F.C. where he sat with the home team supporters.[2]

For his 1,000 game, he was presented with a signed shirt by Les Ferdinand on the pitch at Loftus Road.[2][3] In May 2015, Kemp was named QPR's Supporter of the Year in their annual awards. This was in recognition of his attendance of more than 1,250 consecutive home and away matches.[4] His 1,500th game came in February 2020, when QPR drew 0-0 way against Nottingham Forest F.C.. He received a special shirt during a half-time presentation, and Ranger's manager Mark Warburton sent him a video message.[1]

Following the outbreak of the Cornavirus disease in 2019, Kemp's ongoing record was under threat due to the anticipated resumption of football matches behind closed doors. He stated that he did not agree with matches being played behind closed doors, and would not consider the streak to be over if matches did resume.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Kemp enjoys running, takes part in a weekly parkrun, and has competed four times in the London Marathon. He has collected 50 different QPR shirts during his period supporting the team, and has owns a full collection of Roy of the Rovers comic books. He has one daughter,[5] and lives in Wanstead in East London.[1]
