The Marent Gulch Bridge is an historic iron railroad bridge located approximately 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Missoula, Montana. The current bridge is the second bridge constructed at the location. The first was a wooden trestle constructed by the Northern Pacific Railway in 1883. This bridge was soon replaced with an iron structure in 1885 to address structural issues and increase resistance to fire.[1] At the time of the wooden trestle's construction, it was the "highest wooden trestle railroad bridge in the world".[2]
